Wat Benchamabophit is made out of beautiful white Carrara type marble which has lead Wat Ben to be known as one of the most beautiful Bangkok Buddhist temples. Wat Ben is often simply called; The Marble Temple.

Wat Ben is considered by Thai Buddhist temple historians as the Bangkok temple that initiated modern Thai temple architecture. The historians frequently refer to the large bot of Wat Benchamabophit which was build in the form of a large cruciform.

King Rama V Ashes

The Wat Benchamabophit Buddha image is an imitation of the well known Phra Phuttha Chinnarat. It is wide believe that the Wat Ben Buddha houses the ashes of the legendary Thai King Rama V. It is said that King Rama V had constructed this temple with they idea that he would be buried inside of it.

The courtyard of the Wat Ben Temple complex houses a collection of 53 beautiful Buddha images. The collection of Buddha images show the different Buddhist figures and styles from all regions of Thailand as well as neighbouring Buddhist countries. A visit to the Wat Wenchamabophit courtyard can be a great educational experience.

Location - Wat Benchamabophit Temple

Ben Wat is located in central Bangkok and can be found opposite the Chitlada Royal Palace. Wat Benchamabophit is located at the intersection of Si Ayuthaya and Th Phra Rama V. The marble temple is open daily from 08.00am until 17.30pm. Entrance fee to Wat Ben is 20 THB.
