Bangkok Museums are in fact of excellent quality and unfortunately not many foreign visitors are aware that they exist. They are certainly well worth the visit and are an deal activity for the whole family.
We have listed a good selection of Bangkok Museums and we hope that you will have the time to visit one next time that you visit the Thai capital city.
Bangkok National Museum
The Bangkok National Museum is located just to the west of Sanam Luang. The impressive Bangkok National Museum is just a short distance away from the legendary Khao San Road which is famous for its backpackers population.
The Bangkok National Museum offers English tours at half past nine in the morning every Wednesday and Thursday. The Bangkok National Museum also offers tours in French every Wednesdays, in Japanese every Wednesdays and finally in German every Thursday morning.
The Bangkok National Museum is open from 9 o'clock onwards and closes at 16.00 pm. The Bangkok National Museum is not open on every Monday and Tuesday as well as public holidays. Tickets for the entrance to the Museum cost forty Thai Bath and is among the least expensive Bangkok museums.
Royal Barge Museum
The Royal barge Museum is yet another one of the great Bangkok museums that is worth a visit when you visit Bangkok next time.
The Royal Barge museum shows how the Royal Thai barges are used on ceremonial events. The Royal barges are stored at this special museum when not in use for one of the special ceremonial events.
The Royal barge Museum's barges are interesting and are old style barges that can measure up to 50 meters in length. All visitors are impressed at the sight of these very special barges.
The largest Royal Thai barge needs a rather large barge crew for it to operate properly. The crew consists of 50 oars men, 7 parasol bearers, two navigators, one flagman, two helmsmen, one rhythm maker and finally one chanter. Just imagine the training and team work that is required to perform with a barge and crew that size at one of the special events.
The tickets for entrance to the Royal Thai barge Museum cost a mere 30 Thai Bath and are open every day from 09:00 AM until 17:00 PM.
We recommend this museum which is among the nicest Bangkok museums and especially to those of you travelling with kids although adults love the museum just as much.
Jim Thompson House
The Jim Thompson House is one of the more popular Bangkok museums among foreign tourists.
Jim Thompson was a well-known American citizen that came to Thailand just after the Second World War; Jim Thompson managed to blow new life into the Thai silk industry which had been close to disappearing.
Jim Thompson however also became well known due to another event. In the late 1960's Jim disappeared in the Highlands in Malaysia. Mr. Thompson was never found or heard from since then although search crews looked extensively for him. The wildest rumours about his disappearance still circle up to this day.
Whilst living in Thailand, Jim had built an impressive house along a water canal in Bangkok. This house was build according to traditional Thai architecture and only the very best natural products were used by Jim Thompson when he builds his dream house.
The house now acts as host to the Jim Thompson Museum and one of the best Bangkok Museums.. The Jim Thompson House showcases an excellent collection of antiques and art from the region. He built a traditional Thai house on the bank of a canal in Bangkok and that house is now a museum showing his collection of Asian antiques and handicrafts.
The Jim Thompson Museum is located in the Sukhumvit area and is open daily. Tickets for entry can be purchased for 100 Thai Baht per person. Due to its location, the Jim Thompson is among the easiest of Bangkok museums to visit.
